Implementing This One Mindset Will Change Your Life.

Why Doing > Thinking

Most people aren’t the perfect version of themselves. No one really is. Each day, we strive to become better than we were yesterday. We try to push ourselves through the hardest times, even when we’re lost or confused.

An important part of each day is waking up with a vision. An important part of each day is waking up with a vision: a vision for your day, a vision for what you want to accomplish.

Part of this vision comes from the goals that you set for yourself, and the mindsets that you desire to take action with.

As amazing as humans are, it's easy for us to get stuck in a loophole of thinking or planning. (I’m guilty of this!). We tend to get excited or think too much about what could happen. Unfortunately, this takes up a lot of time and pushes you back from accomplishing your objective.

As once said, “The more you overthink the less you will understand.”
Habeeb Akande

I want you to read that again. The MORE you overthink, the LESS you understand. If you keep on working your mind about the possible outcomes, how can you ever decide the one that's perfect for you?

If you want something, you have to work for it. Results only show to those who act, while others are still discovering their options.

Do What Defines you.

“Learn to… be what you are, and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not.” — Henri-Frédéric Amiel

Do what you think is right for you. Don’t just talk about it.

Being a Doer instead of a Thinker requires an insane amount of self-awareness, commitment, and risk; but it’s the only way you’ll see progress.

When getting things done, if you’re not focused enough and are stuck in the “thinking” or “planning” phase for too long, you’ll never get work done.

If you have the motivation and discipline to accomplish something, you will automatically (or eventually) lead you to it; otherwise, your excuses will outnumber your reasonings and will convince you that it can’t be done.

Bias Towards Action

Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. — Thomas Jefferson

You want to get something done? Get it done. Don’t talk about what you should be doing, actually get to work.

Although thinking and planning are as important for executing your success, the results contribute the most to long term-achievement.

Thinking about something is only 1/2 of the way, and it won’t do you well unless you finish strong. Every time you procrastinate or put something to another time, you essentially place it into a queue; a long queue full of action items you wish to have done, but don’t have the bias against it.

If you don’t act, you’ll never achieve progress. It’s simple if you really think about it. You’re the only person that’s going to benefit from it and certainly, you can really read all the books, receive a lot of advice, even take courses. But until you act upon it, you won’t achieve your end goal.

Thinking about doing is more tiring than actually doing.

If you spend all of your time thinking and tiring your brain, you’ll have much less energy to actually do it. Holding on to many things at once won’t necessarily make you exhausted, it’ll only be the constant reminder of the things needing to be done.

It’ll always be knocking on your mental door, patiently waiting to be completed.

Take those training wheels off. Stop thinking and just do it.

Even the Smallest Steps Matter

“Take time to deliberate, but when the time for action has arrived, stop thinking and go in.”
– Napoleon Bonaparte

Don’t get me wrong, thinking is great. I love thinking. It helps me get through the day, it helps me sleep, it helps me reflect and improve.

But you just have to realize that refueling your car (or charging) won’t let it drive by itself.

Get that task done, one step at a time. No one learned to run before they walked.

Not only is doing much, MUCH easier than thinking about doing, but it also gives you the feeling of success and positivity. Once you start to commit, even the smallest steps can take you a long way. The momentum will carry you. With the momentum, you’ll feel proud, and make progress faster than ever before.

So with all of this taken, what measures will you take in the new year to improve yourself?
